Vienna: Kurt Waldheim, the former United Nations secretary-general who was later accused of taking part in Nazi war crimes, died on Thursday of heart failure, the office of Austrian President Heinz Fischer said. He was 88. Waldheim became the fourth secretary-general of the UN in 1972. Five years after leaving the UN, he was elected president of Austria amid charges that, while serving with the German army in WWII, his unit was guilty of war crimes. BLOOMBERG
