SC lifts stay on probe against Justice Dinakaran
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, while noting that former Karnataka Chief Justice P. D. Dinakaran, was using “tactics" to stall the proceedings against him, asked the chairman of the Rajya Sabha to reconstitute the committee probing the judge.
Dinakaran had alleged that senior counsel P. P. Rao, who was part of the three-member panel appointed by the Rajya Sabha to probe the corruption charges against the judge, was biased against him.
However, the court has lifted the stay against the proceedings probing Dinakaran.
Dinakaran is facing charges of corruption on account of holding assests disportionate to his known income. Members of his family have also alleged amassed large amounts of wealth while Dinakaran held office.
The court chose to rule mid-way in the case, as it has allowed the committee to be reconstituted. But it made strong observations against Dinakaran, stating that “no court can come to the assistance of the petitioner" for the kind of strategy he is trying to adopt is not bona fide.
