Madurai: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) will provide technology under the Corporate Houses Scheme for establishing ticket counters in institutions, including colleges, universities and district collectorates.
Such institutions will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the IRCTC for establishing reservation counters in their premises, railway sources said today.
Under the revised policy on Passenger Reservation System, ticket counters can be opened in places where there are no railway stations. Counters can also be opened in post offices which would be manned by postal staff on mutually-agreed terms and conditions.
In case of metros, PRS centres would be set up at satellite towns which had a population of more than four lakh and no reservation counter within a 15 km radius, sources said.
The state government employees would man the ticketing centres in remote hilly areas, bridging the gap of access and convenience which has for long plagued far flung areas, especially in hilly terrain.
