Terrorists won’t be allowed to use cyber technology to derail India growth story: Ravi Shankar Prasad
Prasad says terrorist organisations like Islamic State in Syria were leveraging technology to spread their message and carry out their strategy
Mumbai: Union minister for telecommunications and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said “extremists and terrorists would not be allowed to derail the India growth story" by using modern communication technologies.
Speaking on “IT and Cyber Crime: Challenges Faced By Indian and International Organisations" at the Indian Merchants’ Chamber in Mumbai, Prasad admitted that terrorist organisations like the Islamic State in Syria were leveraging technology to spread their message and carry out their strategy.
“That is the reason why Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes it a point at every international platform to call for a united fight against terrorism and cyber crime," Prasad said.
The financial services sector would bear “a very serious impact" of cyber crime and the government was taking every step it could to ensure that proper security systems are built.
“We have proposed to set up a national cyber coordination centre. We are collaborating with other countries. We are working on aspects from skilling to training to advisory to monitoring. Cyber security should remain a very important element of India’s IT architecture," Prasad said.
