Guwahati: Voters in three Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam today produced alternative photo documents to establish their identity as Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) have not yet been issued in the state.
As per an Election Commission order, the voters in the three LS constituencies of Karimganj, Silchar and Autonomous District (ST), in the first phase, voted after producing any one of the documents with photographs as allowed by the EC.
The documents are passports, driving licens, PAN card, service identity card, public sector banks, post office and Kisan Passbook, property documents such as pattas (land deeds) and registered deeds.
Other valid documents were SC/ST/OBC certificates issued by competant authority, pension documents, certificates of widow/dependent, physical handicap, freedom fighters identity card, Arms Licenses, NREGA Job Cards and Health Insurance Smart Cards.
Any of these photo identity cards available only to the head of the family were used for identifying all the other voting eligible family members provided they all came together with her/him to the polling station to vote.
