Melbourne: The Indian government has asked consular officials in Australia to investigate after four of its nationals were attacked in Melbourne, heightening safety concerns for Indians in the country.
The ministry of external affairs in New Delhi asked the consulate in Melbourne to report on the incident in which the men were allegedly beaten in a racist attack, state-run broadcaster Doordarshan reported on its website.
Victorian state premier John Brumby is scheduled to travel to India next week as part of ongoing efforts by Australian authorities to reassure the New Delhi its nationals are safe to study and live in the country.
