New Delhi: After being criticized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March for delays in grievance redressal, the income tax department on Wednesday said there has been a marked improvement in its grievance disposal rate.
The disposal rate of grievances received this fiscal till 22 July through the centralised public grievance redress and monitoring system has increased to 85%, the tax department said without giving any comparative figure.
“The department is committed to the objective of timely delivery of quality taxpayer services and time bound disposal of grievances. This will be closely reviewed from time to time," it said in a statement.
The department will also set up an additional 58 aayakar seva kendras to provide services to tax payers. At present, there are 250 such centres.
The tax department also disposed of 65% of the rectification applications for making changes to the tax return forms. The department is working on improving systems to reduce the time taken in disposal of rectification applications, the statement said.
