New Delhi: External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee and US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice are expected to sign the historic 123 Agreement on 13 October in Washington, said a top government official who didn’t wish to be named. India and the US were unable to ink the pathbreaking civil nuclear agreement when Rice was in New Delhi on her brief tour of India that ended on Saturday.
India had made it clear to the US that it would sign the deal only after US President George W. Bush signs the legislation on the Indo-US nuclear deal, which was approved by Congress last week, into a law—on 8 October —an occasion when New Delhi expects certain misgivings to be cleared.
Mukherjee is expected to leave for Washington on 12 October.
