The former Union minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Dayanidhi Maran is contesting to retain the Chennai Central constituency, which he now represents.
Data from the Registrar of Companies shows that along with wife Priya, he controls DK Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. While the nature of business transacted by this company is unclear, it does own stakes in two other companies—Network Cable Solutions Pvt. Ltd and Kal Cables Pvt. Ltd (along with Maran’s mother Mallika Maran).
His brother Kalanithi Maran, along with his wife Kavery Kalanithi, controls the Sun group of companies, which has interests in the media and aviation sectors. Companies controlled by Kalanithi and Kavery include Sun TV Network Ltd, Sun Direct TV Pvt. Ltd, Kal Media Services Pvt. Ltd, South Asia FM Pvt. Ltd, Kal Radio Ltd, Kal Publications Pvt. Ltd, SpiceJet Ltd, Kal Airways Pvt. Ltd and Pioneer Radio Training Services Pvt. Ltd.
Maran did not respond to a detailed questionnaire emailed to an aide.
