New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday released a booklet attacking the 49-day-old Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The Congress also approached the Election Commission (EC) against the bribery remarks that Kejriwal had made.

In the letter to the commission, K.C. Mittal, party secretary and incharge of its legal team, said Kejriwal’s statements where he asked voters in Delhi to take money offered by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress but vote for AAP was a violation of the model code of conduct.

“Take money from both the parties but vote for AAP," Kejriwal had said at the hustings on Sunday. “We will fool them this time. They have been deceiving us for the last 65 years. Now it’s our turn."

“By making such a statement he has deliberately and intentionally instigated the public to take bribe for voting and has thereby abated the offence of bribery during the electoral process," the letter to the EC said. “The language used is also defamatory and cause serious aspersions on the fair conduct of elections by the authorities and public at large."

Kejriwal has already been issued a notice by the EC on his remarks against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay and comments that the BJP is allegedly inciting communal violence. EC is looking into it as a case of violation of the model code of conduct imposed in Delhi since the announcement of polls last week.

The Congress party’s booklet called “49 Dino ki ultee chaal, Dilli hui behal, U turn Kejriwal" has 16 points on the promises made by Kejriwal and the alleged U-turns made by him.

Releasing the booklet, party general secretary and chief of campaign committee in Delhi, Ajay Maken, said: “When you see this compilation, you will see how irresponsible this party and its leaders are."

In the booklet, the Congress has alleged how Kejriwal went back on his promises of not contesting elections, not taking a government accommodation and non-implementation of the promise of women commando force.
