Hyderabad: State government-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has suffered a production loss of 3 lakh tons of coal, valued at Rs 56 crore, due to the ongoing Telangana bandh, a senior company official said on Wednesday.
Some 68,000 company employees could not work due to bandh, resulting in wage-loss of Rs 15 crore.
The coal fields of the SCCL are located in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam, and Warangal districts of Telangana area.
“Even though some employees have been participating in non-cooperation movement announced by the Telangana Joint Action Committee, there was not much effect on the production.However, since Tuesday, production has suffered to the extent of 1.6 lakh tons per day,” the official said.
Presently, the SCCL supplies coal to six power plants with a combined power generation capacity of 6000 MW.
The official said all the companies which are buying coal from SCCL will have buffer stock for 15 days and hence power generation would not be affected.
Pro-Telangana groups and parties have called for bandh, to press for introduction of statehood bill in the Parliament.
