44% Delhiites say Modi’s popularity on the wane
Corruption emerges as most important issue, with 48% of respondents echoing what AAP's leader Arvind Kejriwal says is his prime focus
Delhi has chosen its heroes. This poll battle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally come to an end with Arvind Kejriwal’s party recording a massive win. InstaVaani has been tracking the Delhi elections since 15 January 2014. So far, we have conducted five polls on the Delhi elections.
Delhi respondents’ choices shifted with the developments that were taking place. AAP was ahead in what was looking like a highly dynamic race and then the BJP pulled ahead in the polls on the day Kiran Bedi was named the chief ministerial candidate for the BJP. The voters swayed back to AAP, bringing it neck and neck with the BJP in our third official poll. On Tuesday, the official verdict gave AAP a resounding victory.
After the election results, we polled 500 Delhi residents to find out what issues AAP should prioritize once it assumes power.
Corruption emerges as the most important issue, with 48% of respondents echoing what AAP’s leader says is his prime focus. Twenty-six per cent of Delhi respondents rooted for cheap electricity and water. Eighteen per cent chose women’s safety as a prime issue.
While Delhi has made its choice clear, we also polled 400 respondents across the remaining metros, asking if AAP deserves the second chance it has got in Delhi: 67% of the respondents think AAP deserves a second chance.
The enormous gap in the number of seats between the winners and losers points to an obvious question. What went wrong? Has the Modi wave finally crested?
InstaVaani polled 500 residents in Delhi and 400 residents living in various metros of this country to find out if the election indicates that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity is waning.
Forty-seven per cent of the people polled in Delhi didn’t think so, while 44% said the Delhi election results indicate a waning of Modi’s popularity. Nine per cent of the people polled have no opinion on this.
However, in other metros, Modi still holds sway with 62% of respondents saying he remains popular.
