New Delhi: The Supreme Court has suggested a road safety fund, which would compensate all accident victims, regardless of insurance status. The court said that in several types of accident cases—such as hit and runs, or accidents involving uninsured vehicles or vehicles with only third-party insurance—victims are often not compensated. The fund could be created by collecting the proceeds from a one-time insurance premium on every vehicle sold and by levying cess on the price of petrol and diesel sold across the country, Justice R.V. Raveendran of the Supreme Court said.
