Compare BJP’s 48 months with Congress’ 48 years: PM Modi

You will have to think what did you gain or lose during those 48 years of one family as compared to 48 months of our govt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked the people of Puducherry what they have gained or lost during the 48 months of his government compared with 48 years of Congress rule in the country, as he slammed the previous governments for doing little for the union territory.

“This one family (Nehru-Gandhi family) has governed the nation for almost 48 years directly and indirectly. Our govt is going to complete 48 months in this May. You will have to think what did you gain or lose during those 48 years of one family as compared to 48 months of our govt," ANI quoted Modi as saying.

“Our first PM (Jawaharlal Nehru) governed this nation for 17 years. His daughter (Indira Gandhi) did that for 14 years. Then her son (Rajiv Gandhi) held the post of PM for 5 years. In last 10 years from 2004-14 you saw how the family governed the nation through remote control," Modi said in an apparent reference to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi who was at the party helm when Manmohan Singh was the prime minister for two consecutive terms (2004-2014).

He asked what is it that we are lacking in our political system that we are still far behind several nations in development even after attaining independence over six decades ago.

“We attained independence in 1947. Several countries who gained freedom after us are way ahead of us as far as development is concerned. We need to ask ourselves what did we lack in our political culture, our system that we are still lagging behind several nations," Modi, who was addressing a rally in Puducherry, said.

The prime minister said Puducherry has all the resources for all round development but it is still lagging behind compared with other regions of the country.

“Why is its development not up to the mark? Why is it not number one? Are women and youth getting opportunities to move ahead? Are the industries prospering here?," he asked adding, parties which have governed Puducherry have done injustices to the people.
