‘Chinese wall’ in Delhi
New Delhi: Overnight a “Chinese wall" has come up encircling Rajpath, which represents the seat of Indian state power. A security cordon has been thrown around the Central vista that houses the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Prime Minister’s Office, foreign office, home and defence ministry… ahead of Thursday’s Olympic torch rally. 65b0ed0e-0bb3-11dd-83a8-000b5dabf613.flv
Till late Wednesday evening security agencies and government officials were busy making plans to ensure that the security cordon on Rajpath is not breached.
But, only three kilometres away on Shantipath, unmindful of the bandobast nearly 100 Tibetans managed to breach the security cordon for the second time in three weeks. They raised slogans, broke prohibitory orders and clashed with police before they were bundled into waiting police vans.
Waving Tibetan flags and wearing ’Free Tibet’ headbands, the protestors emerged near the embassy located in the high security Chanakyapuri area. The objective was to storm the Chinese embassy. The attempt was foiled. But they did manage to embarrass both China and India.
