Srinagar: Developing Jammu and Kashmir as a world class centre for winter sports would filip tourist inflow to the state, said chief minister Omar Abdullah, focusing that suitable locations should be exploited to the potential to promote such games.
“The government would initiate steps to strengthen sports infrastructure to showcase the winter sports on international canvas,” Abdullah said at the concluding function of the 4th National Ice Hockey Championship at Leh.
He said the state provides an ideal location for various winter and adventurous sports which need to be packaged along with tourism-promotion schemes.
Abdullah said ideal locations would be scouted in a big way and equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure which meets international standards.
This, he said, would increase employment opportunities for the youth besides opening avenues for sportsmen and sports enthusiasts.
Referring to the development schemes for Ladakh, the chief minister said equitable development of all the geographical regions was the main agenda of his government’s policy planning.
