Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities say a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle detonated explosives outside the nation’s air force headquarters in the heart of Colombo.
Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara says the blast went off Friday evening about an hour after President Mahinda Rajapaksa announced the capture of the rebels’ de facto capital.
Dr. Prasad Ariyawansa at the Colombo National Hospital says 30 people were admitted with blast injuries. Two deaths were reported.
The Tamil Tigers have been blamed for scores of suicide bombings in Sri Lanka’s 25-year-old civil war.
