Direct tax collection rises 11.52% in Q1

New Delhi: The government’s gross direct tax collections during the first quarter of the fiscal year (April-June) 2013-14 has shown an increase of 11.52% at Rs.1,23,993 crore compared with Rs.1,11,183 crore in the year-ago period.
A finance ministry statement said while gross collection of corporate taxes during April-June period has increased 7.82% to Rs.76,115 crore, personal income tax is up 18.53% to Rs.46,903 crore.
During the same period, net direct tax collection rose 6.44% to Rs.89,705 crore. Collection of securities transaction tax stood at Rs.926 crore while wealth tax collection registered a growth of 50% to Rs.48 crore.
