New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed on Friday it is likely to win one-third of the vote share in elections to the Delhi assembly in December, quoting what it called the largest survey conducted by the year-old party.

According to the survey—conducted in association with a consultancy firm called Cicero Associates, and the third by the party—AAP is likely to win around 32% of the votes in the 4 December election.

“The survey, apart from some variations, shows that AAP is steadily moving forward among all sections of society. Only that party wins which has support from all sections," AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal told reporters.

It also shows the party leading in 33 seats as opposed to the ruling Congress in 28 and the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 10 seats. Delhi has a total of 70 assembly seats.

According to the survey, both AAP and the BJP are tied on 1 seat.

The survey covered 34,425 voters across all 70 seats. The fieldwork was carried out between 5 September and 5 October.

“The most important take away is that almost all pre-poll surveys show that the AAP is getting a minimum of 25% vote share. Delhi elections are no longer a bipolar fight," Yogendra Yadav, a psephologist and AAP member, told reporters.

The survey also claims that AAP is making inroads among young voters and will get 17% of Muslim votes and 21% of Dalit votes.

The survey shows drinking water is the biggest issue for Delhi voters, followed by environmental cleanliness, bad roads and power cuts. Interestingly, ‘car parking problems’ topped corruption as an election issue.

The party, however, said that respondents were asked about issues in their neighbourhoods and settlements.
