New Delhi: Although its seat-sharing talks with the Samajwadi Party, or SP, in Uttar Pradesh have failed, the Congress party has decided not to field candidates against its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav, said a Congress leader from the state who didn’t wish to be identified. The party has also decided to field former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin from Moradabad, he said.
Mulayam is contesting from Mainpuri and Akhilesh Yadav from both Kannauj and Ferozabad. The SP also has not fielded candidates against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli and her son Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.
