New Delhi: Even as Barack Obama readies to take office as the new President of the United States in January, his victory will be remarkable for one great achievement. Despite an African-American contesting for the presidency, both candidates avoided stoking racial sentiments in their push for victory.

But with arguably the most powerful man on earth now a black, does the community feel a new sense of empowerment? Nidhi Bhardwaj tried to find out from three different men from three different countries their feelings immediately after Obama’s win. One of them belongs to Kenya, a country Obama has filial ties to and another to a country, which has often been at odds with the US.
But from each she heard a message of hope.
