Dhaka: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will be visiting Bangladesh on 25 July ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s trip here in September.
“We are very happy and look forward to visit of Gandhi to Bangladesh on 25 July,” foreign minister Dipu Moni said after talks with her Indian counterpart S M Krishna here.
Sources said that Bangladesh views Gandhi’s upcoming trip here as a landmark visit.
Earlier, Bangladeshi media reported that Gandhi would attend a special conference on disabled and autistic children during her July visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Prime Minister Singh will visit Bangladesh on September six and seven. His visit is expected to mark a new beginning in bilateral ties as some crucial issues like border demarcation and exchange of enclaves are likely to be resolved.
