New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into wrongdoing during the preparations for the Commonwealth Games expanded to include the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and three private companies.

The agency registered three fresh corruption cases on Thursday and conducted searches at 20 places in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

“It is alleged that the accused officials of the NDMC and CPWD entered into criminal conspiracy with private persons and firms," CBI said in a press statement.

“The accused allegedly abused their official position and awarded contracts in the matter of gradation and renovation of Shivaji and Talkatora stadiums at exorbitant rates, by inflating the justification cost to private firms, which has resulted in wrongful gain to the private persons and corresponding loss to the NDMC."

Earlier, the agency had registered four cases of corruption, cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy against Games Organising Committee (OC) officials and some private companies. Those arrested previously include sacked OC general secretary Lalit Bhanot and other high-ranking OC officials.
