Cuddalore: LIC employees will go on a nationwide strike if the Centre does not issue a recruitment notification by December 2007, a top official of the All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) said today.
AIIEA general secretary K Venugopal alleged that no recruitments had been taking place for the last 14 years due to government policies. About 16,000 vacant posts were yet to be filled up, he claimed.
“Though the LIC management was ready to recruit about 6,000 people, the Centre had not given its approval,” he told PTI.
He said AIIEA was against Foreign Direct Investment in the insurance sector, as it would only result in foreign companies “taking away” the savings of the people. To stop FDI in India, the AIIEA would start an awarenes campaign with traders and others, he said.
