BackSC asks Election Commission to respond on code of conduct issue in J&K
SC says the imposition of code of conduct could impact relief and rehabilitation in the flood-affected state

New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday issued a notice to the Election Commission (EC), in a plea to relax the imposition of the code of conduct during the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), as it could impact relief and rehabilitation in the flood-affected state.
The court asked the Election Commission to be present at the next hearing in the case overseeing the rehabilitation process in flood-affected state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The direction came on the oral request of lawyer Bhim Singh who said that the code of conduct would impact the relief and rehabilitation process, and providing food and water to the victims.
The court also expressed its displeasure with the Jammu and Kashmir government. “It’s your state. You take care of the people," the court told the lawyer appearing for the state, adding that they shouldn’t wait for the court to pass directions.
A report taking stock of the ground situation in the affected regions of the state has been filed before the court.
