Supreme Court stays ED attachment proceedings against Marans
Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV moved the apex court in July seeking quashing of the ED's attachment order for assets worth nearly `742 crore
New Delhi: In partial relief to the Maran brothers, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed proceedings before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to attachment of assets of Sun TV Networks Ltd and Kalaignar TV till it hears the case.
Properties owned by former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi Maran were attached by ED in April under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002, in connection with its investigation of the 2G spectrum allocation case.
Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV moved the apex court in July seeking quashing of the ED’s attachment order for assets worth nearly ₹ 742 crore.
The court, on Friday, also clarified that the 180-day period for which the property attachment order is valid will also be stayed till the matter is heard by the court. An order for attachment of properties expires after 180 days of it being passed, as per provisions of PMLA.
