Haryana to plug tax leaks via smartphone apps
Haryana's scheme 'Apnatax' will match records of dealers with the bill copies sent by customers to ensure 100% tax compliance.
Chandigarh: Smartphones applications like WhatsApp, Wechat or Viber may help the Haryana excise and taxation department to plug any revenue leakage.
The Haryana excise and taxation department on Tuesday said it has rolled out a new scheme called ‘Apnatax’ whereby customers could send copies of their bills through smartphones which will be matched with records of dealers to ensure 100% tax compliance.
Haryana excise and taxation minister Kiran Choudhry said under this scheme, the consumers are being approached to send a copy of the bill or cash memo to the department through various means such as drop boxes and smartphones.
The minister said the scheme is based on the mode of utilising technology for promoting taxpayer awareness. For this purpose, the department has launched a special campaign under the ‘Apnatax´ scheme.
She said the consumers are being approached to send a copy of the cash memo or bill through mobile applications such as WhatsApp, Wechat, Viber etc., or by email to apnatax@haryanatax.com.
A dedicated mobile number has also been allocated for this purpose.
For the storage and use of this, a bill information system software has been prepared by the department, she said.
The facility of drop boxes has also been introduced in Gurgaon.
Such facilities would be introduced at such similar locations in the state wherein customers may drop copies of their retail sale invoices or cash memos issued by dealers for sale of goods.
