Ramesh Abhishek gets extension as FMC chairman
Abhishek's tenure has been extended for another three months
Mumbai: The government has extended the tenure of Forward Markets Commission (FMC) chairman Ramesh Abhishek for another three months. This is the second time that Abhishek, a 1982 batch officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has been given a three-month extension.
“The extension of tenure of Ramesh Abhishek, IAS (BH:82), as chairman, Forward Markets Commission for a period of three months beyond 08.10.2014," said a statement issued by Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday.
Abhishek joined FMC as a member in December 2010 and was given the additional charge of chairman in August 2011. He was appointed a full-time chairman in September 2012.
In April, government had invited applications for the post of FMC chairman but later on decided to extend the tenure of Abhishek, who was at the helm of the commodities watchdog when the ₹ 5,574.35 crore payment crisis emerged at the National Spot Exchange Ltd.
