This show discusses the Sunday book market that takes place in Daryaganj, situated in Old Delhi. (Read the accompanying blog for more information and pictures of the market)
Every Sunday traders from all over India set up roadside stalls across a one to two kilometre stretch pavement where books, both new and second hand are sold for bargain prices.
A bulk of the shoppers are students looking for various editions of text books on a number of subjects. However there is also a very good selection of fiction, non fiction and other genres. Traders largely organise themselves in loose genres with some selling science fiction, others selling children’s literature, others exclusively focusing on medical text books etc.
Visiting the market is a good winter time occupation, because in summer, the heat can get too overbearing. It’s definitely worth a visit. Chances are that you will pick up a few excellent bargains. And on the off chance that you dont find anything you like - its certainly worth the experience.
