Delhi govt withdraws suit on Centre-State tussle

New Delhi: The Delhi government on Friday withdrew from the Supreme Court its plea seeking an authoritative ruling on resolving a dispute with the Centre over the powers of the state assembly in the national capital territory.
This was done in light of the fact that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government has filed at least six appeals against the ruling of the Delhi high court, which on 4 August upheld the powers of the Lieutenant Governor in matters of public order, land, police and services, including the power to appoint civil servants.
A bench comprising justices A.K. Sikri and D.Y. Chandrachud allowed the Delhi government to withdraw its plea.
The bench also noted in its order that the state government will have the option of approaching the apex court, if required, under the same provision of the Constitution.
The Delhi government had moved the court under Article 131 of the Indian Constitution, claiming that its dispute with the Centre was of a federal nature.
