Jaitley files nomination from Amritsar, NC chief Farooq Abdullah from Srinagar and Soni in Anandpur Sahib

New Delhi: With just two days to go, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley, Union ministers Farooq Abdullah and Preneet Kaur and Congress veteran Ambika Soni were among the prominent candidates who filed nominations on Monday for the 30 April election to 89 seats in the seventh phase.

Jaitley, accompanied by his wife and daughter, filed his papers in Amritsar, while National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah entered the fray for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. Abdullah was accompanied by his son and Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and state Congress head Saifuddin Soz.

Seventy one-year-old former Union minister Ambika Soni submitted her nomination papers from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. Union minister for state for external affairs and three times MP Preneet Kaur filed her nomination papers from Patiala. She was accompanied by her husband Amarinder Singh, who is Congress candidate from Amritsar, her daughter Jai Inder Kaur and son Ranninder Singh.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) nominee Deepinder Singh Dhillon also filed his nomination papers along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) party candidate Dharamvir Gandhi. Sitting SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal filed her nomination papers from the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat. She was accompanied by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister and husband Sukhbir Singh Badal. Harsimrat’s brother and cabinet minister Bikarm Singh Majithia filed papers as the covering candidate. Nominations will close on 9 April for this phase.
