President’s rule imposed in Jharkhand
New Delhi: Jharkhand on Tuesday was placed under Central rule with President Pratibha Patil accepting a recommendation of the cabinet after the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave up efforts to form an alternative government after the resignation of chief minister Shibu Soren.
A Rashtrapati Bhavan official said the state assembly will be kept in suspended animation during President’s rule, which has been imposed for the second time in two years.
A cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday morning recommended that the President impose Central rule on the state on the basis of a report submitted by Jharkhand governor M.O.H. Farooq to New Delhi on Monday.
