New Delhi: A public interest petition (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking its direction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the contents of a laptop that was recovered from Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case.

The petition filed by advocate Ajay K. Agrawal alleges that the laptop, which at present is at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad, contains the names of high political functionaries such as Ashok Chavan and others as recipients of bribe money from Telgi.

The petition urges the apex court to direct the CBI to file an up to date status report of the investigations of the contents of the laptop.

Reacting to the petition, Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said, “Ashok Chavan is not a new chief minister. He has been the chief minister of Maharashtra for almost a year. These kinds of PILs are not uncommon. Law will take its own course. Unless and until the court give any direction otherwise, he will continue to be the chief minister.
