Organic farming area in India is 312,000 hectares

Mumbai: The certified land area under organic farming in India has reached 312,000 hectares.

According to the junior federal farm minister Kanti Lal Bhuria, the country is fast implementing the National Project on Organic Farming for production, certification and market development of organic farming.

The Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority under the trade ministry is also promoting export of organic products.

With consumer tastes registering change, even if marginal, there is hope for the organic industry to grow further. Meanwhile, the Development Authority is looking at the possibility of stepping up exports.
