New Delhi: At least 50% of the almost 250,000 non-executive employees of the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) went on a two day strike on Wednesday after the largest BSNL Employees union (BSNLEU) and its allies joined the ongoing All India Graduate Engineer Telecom officer Association (AIGETOA) strike called on Tuesday.
“Out of about 55,000 executives of BSNL, 2,400 executives are unauthorizedly absent from their duties since 18th August 2009,” a statement from BSNL said.
The employees have gone on strike demanding increased wages and career progression, and absorption of group ‘A’ officers in BSNL.
“The issue of absorption of group ‘A’ officers in BSNL is under active consideration of Government and is likely to be finalized soon,” the statement said.
