“Citizens are facing currency hardship due to demonetization of currency (Rs1,000 and 500 notes) across the nation. Hence, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to support this campaign of the Government of India and extend possible help to air travelers and airport users," AAI said in a statement. The authority manages almost all the civilian airports in the country, besides the public-private partnership airports in Delhi and Mumbai. Airports in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi will also provide free car parking.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on 8 November that notes of Rs500 and 1,000 will no longer be legal tender, sparking a shortage of currency.
