Poll on black money shows people want more action
62% of respondents in an InstaVaani survey say they believed that unearthing black money in India, and not from Swiss bank accounts, should be priority
Last week, Parliament passed a stringent law targeting those in possession of black money, or unaccounted and untaxed wealth, abroad. Bringing back black money stashed away in overseas bank accounts was a key pre-election promise of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government.
An overwhelming number of respondents in a poll conducted by instaVaani ahead of the government’s first anniversary said the issue of black money remains relevant. And, more worryingly for the government, one in two respondents is of the view that it has not done enough to curb the menace.
The survey of 401 respondents also revealed that most people wanted the government to give greater priority to targeting black money generated within the country; 62% of respondents said they believed that unearthing black money in India should be the priority.
