Back25% water cut in Mumbai due to burst pipeline
The city's municipal corporation says it has started repair work on the pipeline, in Thane district, and will be done by Tuesday evening

Mumbai: The local civic body on Monday imposed a 25% water cut in Mumbai with immediate effect due to a breach in a pipeline connected to a key lake.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) said it has started repair work on the ruptured pipeline in adjoining Thane district and the task will be completed by Tuesday evening.
“The pipeline that supplies water to the city from Tansa lake has burst at Vartak Nagar in Thane district. Due to this, we have imposed 25% water cut in the western, eastern and southern parts of the city with immediate effect," deputy municipal commissioner Ramesh Bambale told PTI.
A process called “isolation" is currently going on, where water supply to the affected pipe will be stopped to pave the way for repair work, he said.
“We expect the crack on the affected stretch to be fixed by Tuesday evening. Once the work is completed, we will initiate the regular water supply," Bambale said.
The MCGM on 13 August withdrew water cuts it had imposed on the city a month ago. The civic administration had imposed a 20% water cut in Mumbai from 3 July due to poor rainfall in June.
It reduced the water cut to 10% on 30 July as levels in lakes supplying water to the financial capital improved following heavy downpour.
As per the MCGM records, the water stock in seven major lakes that cater to the city, as on 16 August, stood at 1,277 billion litres compared to 1,231 billion litres in the same period last year.
