Blasts rock Syrian capital Damascus

Syrian authorities reported a preliminary death toll of 40 people and a further 150 injured. Arab League observers, part of an 11-person advance team that arrived in Damascus on Thursday, were at the site of the blast inspecting the scene, said Jihad Makdissi, a spokesman for the foreign affairs ministry.
