New Delhi: Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, also chairperson of the joint drafting committee for the Lokpal bill, said on Friday that working of the committee would not be affected by controversies over some members.

Addressing media persons after a Congress core group meeting, he also added that representatives of the government on the committee would work with Anna Hazare and colleagues to draft a strong Lokpal bill.

Joining the debate Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, ahead of assembly elections in the state in 2012, demanded that the committee should include a scheduled caste member too. “Of the 10 members including those of civil society, there is not (one) member of scheduled caste in the drafting committee," she said in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, upset by the “smear campaign" Santosh Hegde, member of the civil society on the committee, is going to announce on Saturday whether or not he will resign from the committee.

Prashant Bhushan and Shanti Bhushan, members of the panel from the civil society side are caught in the midst of allegations regarding land allotment in Uttar Pradesh and alleged audio conversations with political leaders on the lines of influencing a judge.
