Bank staff plan one-day strike on 7 Sept
Mumbai: About 1 million employees of Indian banks plan to go on a one-day strike on Tuesday to protest a host of issues including foreign direct investment in public sector banks and entry of foreign banks amongst others.
The strike has been called by the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) in support of the strike call given by the National Convention of Central Trade Unions, AIBEA said in a press release.
The strike will also protest an amendment in the Banking Regulation Act section 12(2) which seeks to remove 10% cap on voting rights and making it upto 74% in an intention to handover private sector banks to foreign banks.
Employees from public, private, foreign, cooperative and regional rural banks, the association added in the statement.
