New Delhi: Central trade unions cutting across party lines are expected to meet in New Delhi on 14 September to raise five issues affecting India’s labour force, including rising commodity prices and job losses due to the economic meltdown, a trade union leader has said.
Workers’ representatives, who are expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the convention, will also press for the setting up of a national fund for the unorganized sector, and state their opposition to disinvestment in public sector firms, H. Mahadevan, deputy secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress, or AITUC, said. Trade unions, including Indian Nation Trade Union Congress, Centre of Indian Trade Union, Hind Mazdoor Sangh and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh are expected to attend the convention, Mahadevan said.
