New Delhi: The Supreme Court on 24 October refused to entertain the plea of Janta Party president Subramiam Swamy seeking reconstitution of the expert committee to review the Sethusamudram project.
“We are not going to interfere with the committee. It is not appointed by the Court," a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said, when Swamy mentioned his application seeking quashing of the existing committee.
The Court said Swamy can file his objections before the Committee. He had complained that the committee was not providing him the documents.
However, the additional solicitor general assured the court that Swamy will be given the necessary documents.
Swamy, in his application, had alleged that the panel members had biased views.
He had submitted that the committee constituted on 5 October 2007 by the Centre was “vitiated by non-inclusion of certain expertise which is essential to address the criticisms that had compelled the government to keep the project on hold."
