Almost half of Delhi doesn’t know how to stay safe from dengue
More than 3,000 cases of dengue have been registered in the national capital; 22 citizens, including three children, have died
New Delhi: Delhi is experiencing the worst outbreak of dengue in recent years, but half the residents who responded to an instaVaani poll were not aware of the steps they need to take to avoid catching the mosquito-borne viral fever, showing that awareness campaigns haven’t quite worked.
Forty-seven per cent of 394 respondents to a specific question said they didn’t know how to stay safe from dengue; 29 people who have actually suffered from the disease were unaware of preventive measures.
instaVaani polled a total of 507 residents across Delhi. Seventy-eight (15%) of them said there are people in their immediate circle who have been affected by dengue; 51% of 317 respondents to a specific question said governing bodies and citizens were equally to blame for the spread of dengue in Delhi.
