New Delhi: India has proposed three bus links between India and Nepal to promote tourism and people-to-people contacts, minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.

The launch of bus services on these routes would be facilitated by the signing of the proposed Saarc Motor Vehicles Agreement at the upcoming South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Summit in Kathmandu later this month.

“This agreement would facilitate Nepal-India bus services on reciprocal basis and a seamless movement of people from the two countries," a government statement said.

“The following three routes, have been identified for the bus service in the first instance: Kathmandu–Bhairahawa–Sunauli–Gorakhpur–Lucknow–New Delhi: (ii) Kathmandu–Bhairahawa–Sunauli–Azamgarh–Varanasi–New Delh and (iii) Pokhara –Bharahawa–Sunauli–Gorakhpur–Lucknow–New Delhi," the statement added.

India already has bus links with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
