Committee to investigate Metro snafu
New Delhi: The ministry of urban development has set up a committee to investigate the snags in the civil construction of the Reliance Infrastructure-led Delhi Airport Metro, it was announced on Saturday. The line will not be functional till the end of August.
The civil construction for the metro line was done by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and it was found that of the 2100 bearings, the interface between the pillars and the girder, 230 have been damaged.
It was not made clear who would bear the cost for the repair or the loss caused to Reliance Infrastructure.
Most of the construction is in place although this crucial part needs repair, and to ensure that this does not happen again an in depth inspection will be done, said Mangu Singh, chief, DMRC.
Sumit Banerjee, CEO, Infrastructure of Reliance Infra, admitted that the corridor was not making profits, but they would continue to run the line and would not close it down.
