Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index for 2011 shows India is perceived as more corrupt than it was last year—its ranking on the index has declined to 95 from 87 in 2010. India’s integrity score has dropped to 3.1 from 3.3 last year. In 2007, the country had been ranked 72, with an integrity score of 3.5. The index is compiled on the basis of 13 global studies on how corrupt a country is regarded to be by other nations.

Global awareness has been heightened by a public outpouring of anger in India over corruption and a tug-of-war over the Lokpal Bill between the government and groups led by anti-graft activist Anna Hazare.
