New Delhi: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, signed an MoU for the creation of entrepreneurs in the presence of Mahabir Prasad, Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries in New Delhi.
Dr. Dinesh Awasthi, Director, EDI and Lt Gen (Retd) S S Mehta, Director General, CII signed the MoU in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Small Scale Industries.
The MoU is in accordance with CII’s Affirmative Action Plan for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This will help fund the training of potential entrepreneurs, while EDI will carry out training and facilitate enterprise establishment.
A 12-week training programme covering a total of 200 trainees will be carried out at seven locations, namely, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Lucknow, Pune, Guwahati, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
The training would be carried out in three phases and would include handholding support for obtaining finance from financial institutions like IDBI and others as well as guidance in starting business.
CII would appoint mentors who would provide opportunity to trained entrepreneurs to create backward and forward linkages with member companies. The training programme will commence from May 2007.
Mahabir Prasad extended the Ministry’s full support to the task undertaken and expressed that small steps would set examples for others and create opportunities for greater development.
