Bangalore: The department of information technology (DIT) is conceptualizing a development fund to promote manufacturing and intellectual property (IP) generation in electronics, Ajay Kumar, joint secretary in the department, said on Monday.
The effort will involve the entire government, he said at the inauguration of the Indian Semiconductor Association Vision Summit in the tech hub.
The government is also considering a new special incentives package to attract investment in semiconductor fabrication and ecosystem units(fabs), after the earlier scheme announced in 2007 met a lukewarm response, he said.
The new package envisions that instead of identifying large projects for setting up semiconductor fabrication units, it would be more fruitful to set up production facilities all along the value chain of electronic products, Kumar added.
