Monsoon rains over the century posted their highest ever weekly gains, with rainfall between 15 July and 22 July nearly 15% above normal. On the back of this, the seasonal deficit improved to -19% from -34% between 8 July and 15 July.

However, key rice and wheat producing states in north India such as Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh continued to dry. The overall reservoir storage improved, with the week’s water levels nearly 55% of their decadal average. But key reservoirs in north and Andhra Pradesh continued to be at half their 10-year average levels.
